I have it. I was afraid it was going to be another "biography" of the Tramp, and the ones I have read have been very difficult to get through. But it wasn't. There was nothing new in it really (but then again, I've read 70 or so books!), but I'd recommend it.
I haven't read this one, but if Terra Cotta recommends it, it's worth your time. I probably have around 25-30 books, but I can't say that I've read each of them word for word. I'll read a chapter or two, move on to another book, then go back to the one I was reading.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Epstein book.
25-30 charles books ?!?!?!
YIKES and i get laughed at for my collection.
i'll put the book on the to do list but alas i went on a spending spree today and now have to be a bit careful :/
and i still got a few chaplin books still to read so there's no haste :D

i'm ticking in at 17 books now. and i read them all. :D
next up will be the gossipy books by lita, georgia and may. after that i am probably ready to shoot myself or just take a long bath in a detergent. (and, no!, it won't be iodine!!!)
The gossipy books are a lot of fun. I was a little disappointed with Georgia Hale's book because it didn't have the juicy tidbits you thought it might have given the title, but it's definitely, um, interesting.
Every time my sister comes over, she counts my Chaplin books to see if I have gotten any more since the last time, asking why I have so many and if I have actually read them. Then she brings up the "O" word (obsessed). And the "sad" thing is, that aside from one or two of them (those Tramp "bios"), I have read them all! (And I tell her that although I may have 70 or so, there are tons more out there, most not even written in English).
hihihi
sorry but i'm laughing here....
fangirls galore!
chaplin had his own shelf in my old cupboard, both books and dvds.
now i've mixed him with the rest of the weird stuff and suddenly people don't notice anymore :D
but i have to do something about the forensics books, last time i cooked with a friend i wasn't allowed to touch the knives ;)
Two books that I have read recently that I've really enjoyed were "Charlie Chaplin: A Centennial Celebration" & "The Legend Of Charlie Chaplin" both are by Peter Haining and include a collection of articles written by people who knew and worked with Charlie. Both of these books are out of print now, but I was able to find them cheaply online. "The Essential Charlie Chaplin" (by Richard Schickel) & "Focus On Chaplin" (by Gerald MacDonald) are similar books as well.

I hadn't seen that book. I just finished one I really enjoyed "Artistry in Motion" The comedy of Charlie Chaplin by Dan Kamin. I really enjoyed it, I just wish it would've been longer. It goes through his movies and tells how a gag was done. I never knew there was a method to the way he fell. I have slow motioned his falls and sure enough he falls the same way almost every time. I only have 14 books so far. My other favorites or "Genius of the Cinema" and the Biography by David Robinson. I also enjoyed the Epstein book. I only have one "gossipy" one ...by Lita Grey . blah. Oh well.
